The World War I era seems ages from modern generations but for some it is a nostalgic look back into a special time. War Horse is a hit Broadway musical play that focuses and celebrates the WWI time period and the difficulties faced by the military. Deemed the “Great War” it is suspected that millions of people died and thousands of horses perished. As it can be simple to write such casualties away with the sands of time this play helps do the opposite.
Scott Tucker, the current representative for War Horse told Fox 4 news about the show, “It is absolutely unique and what’s amazing about it is what these actors breathe into this puppet to bring it to life.” Starting as a book before being adapted for the stage, War Horse the play has won over five Tony awards. The performance includes a live puppet depiction of Jake, a combat horse, controlled by several performers that help bring the story into action.
The performance would arrive as part of the 100th anniversary of World War I. It would also mark the first time Scott Tucker has brought the production to the Kansas City area and he hopes the great response continues. It is the goal of those affiliated with the play that it will help to create continued interest and learning about WWI and the importance of war memorials like local Liberty Memorial.
It is a great opportunity for some family fun and learning so be sure not to miss it!
